The team was engaged by Noosa Shire Council to deliver the removal and replacement of a deteriorated timber retaining wall adjacent to David Low Way. The project scope included managing all aspects of design, construction, stakeholder engagement, and environmental compliance.
Key works involved the safe removal of the existing 1.5–2m high timber retaining wall, excavation and installation of a new retaining structure supported by soil nails, and backfilling. The project also required reinstatement of kerb and channel, pavement layers (including multi-layer asphalt), and adjacent footpath and roadway.
Due to the site’s proximity to live traffic and pedestrians, complex traffic and pedestrian management strategies were implemented. This included the relocation of a bus stop, installation of temporary barriers and kerbs, and the use of multiple Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS).
The project required careful interface with a nearby 300mm water main, ensuring appropriate clearance and protection, along with the relocation of a hydrant within the new pavement footprint. Several key subcontractors were coordinated, including a geotechnical design consultant, soil nail specialist, and landscape contractors.
Stakeholder management was a central focus, with the team implementing a Community Management Plan, maintaining communication with nearby residents through letter drops and ongoing liaison. Environmental and heritage management included tree removal, fauna clearance, erosion and sediment control measures, and monitoring during clearing activities. Dilapidation surveys were conducted on adjacent properties pre- and post-construction to mitigate potential impacts.
This project showcased our capability to deliver technically detailed R2 category works, involving earthworks, pavements, services, stakeholder engagement, and environmental controls within a constrained and publicly sensitive corridor.
